strawberry fields forever

Dubstep.
I've tried to get into it. I've tried to like it. I just can't. Can't. There is just something about it that just makes me want to quit believing in music and everything it has become in recent years. It amazes me how many people enjoy and listen to dubstep religiously. I don't understand it. Have we really resorted to music that is only made by electronic devices? I'm not arguing that it isn't music, because that can open a whole other door by saying that. What makes something music? Music is an art form, and it can be created and shaped in ways beyond our imagination. What music is, is all up to the listener, the composer, and the performer. Everyone's opinion of music can differ greatly and who are we to tell other people what music is or isn't in this life.
On the subject of the dubstep genre of music, it is a reminder of how music evolves over a period of time. Music is a big part of culture and the change that accompanies culture must also affect the music of that generation as well. I think dubstep does a good job of really conforming to its fans' wants though. I mean really think about it. What do teenagers/young adults listen to most of the time? Top 40 songs. What do the majority of the Top 40 songs in the country right now feature in them? Dubstep characteristics. It can all go back to timeless idea of putting out the music that will sell, not necessarily good music to put out, but SELL. Now, dubstep is in a lot of songs on the radio right now, but then there are artists that are strictly dubstep and they market their music to the devoted fans of this genre, but considering that the most popular songs out right now can relate to dubstep, does that broaden the group to who they can share their music with? Yes, it does. Dubstep frustrates me.

I only want music to be as simple, yet complicating, and completely brilliant as it was in the time of the Beatles, the Stones, Bob Dylan, or other classic, influencing artists that changed the way music is forever.

the purpose

What's the real purpose of a blog? To educate? Entertain? Or is it simply a place for someone to voice their opinions, complaints, or random thoughts? Or could it be all of the above, or possibly more? My dear old, pal Webster has this to say about a blog: a Web site containing the writer's or group of writers' own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other Web sites. I mention in newer blogs that I sometimes go back and read my older posts, just to see how things have changed, or how I've changed, but as I did that again, I found myself asking a question that I've never really thought about when it comes to my blog.

Does this blog, this collection of thoughts, ideas, rants, have any sort of purpose?
If it doesn't have a purpose, should I stop and reflect to find this purpose? Does a blog even need a purpose? Now, just when you all are beginning to think that I am losing my mind and over thinking all of this, I have a point. I know it's just a blog. But, that's it. It's a blog. A blog can be a powerful thing, depending on the purpose of it. Think about it. Going through my old posts and just thinking about what I enjoy writing about, I have decided this. I write about music and my faith in Christ. That's basically it. My writing has evolved to only covering those two topics. Okay, step one complete. I know what my blog is focused around, but does it have purpose? At this point, I can't tell you that. I feel like the only people that can determine that are the readers. Do I have a purpose in mind? Yes, I do and I want to strive to fulfill that purpose in every word I write, in every post that is published. I want to share my love of music with people and make them aware of all of the wonders that the art can convey, while voicing my opinions about some of the best artists and albums to ever exist. I want to proclaim all of the magnificent and life-changing things that my Savior does in my life, along with other people's lives, with the hopes of inspiring or encouraging people along the way. Big dreams for a simple, little blog? Probably, but you won't get anywhere without have big dreams, for everything.
